Slow-light spatial solitons.
We numerically and experimentally report the observation of slow-light spatial solitons in a Kerr medium owing to light amplification by stimulated Raman scattering. This was achieved in a CS2 nonlinear planar waveguide that possesses both a strong self-focusing nonlinearity to generate the spatial Raman soliton and a Raman susceptibility sharp enough to induce the slow-light process simultaneo...
متن کاملCounter-rotating cavity solitons in a silicon nitride microresonator.
We demonstrate the generation of counter-rotating cavity solitons in a silicon nitride microresonator using a fixed, single-frequency laser. We demonstrate a dual three-soliton state with a difference in the repetition rates of the soliton trains that can be tuned by varying the ratio of pump powers in the two directions. Such a system enables a highly compact, tunable dual comb source that can...
متن کاملGap solitons in a two-channel microresonator structure.
We show that, when two channel waveguides are coupled by a sequence of periodically spaced microresonators, the group-velocity dispersion is low in the vicinity of the gap associated with the resonant frequency of the resonators. This low dispersion permits the excitation of a gap soliton with much lower energy than in a gap of similar width caused by Bragg reflection.
متن کاملSlow relaxation, confinement, and solitons.
Millisecond crystal relaxation has been used to explain anomalous decay in doped alkali halides. We attribute this slowness to Fermi-Pasta-Ulam solitons. Our model exhibits confinement of mechanical energy released by excitation. Extending the model to long times is justified by its relation to solitons, excitations previously proposed to occur in alkali halides. Soliton damping and observation...
متن کاملStable embedded solitons.
Stable embedded solitons are discovered in the generalized third-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation. When this equation can be reduced to a perturbed complex modified Korteweg-de Vries equation, we developed a soliton perturbation theory which shows that a continuous family of sech-shaped embedded solitons exist and are nonlinearly stable. These analytical results are confirmed by our numeric...
